Almost all of these are drawn between seven and eleven at night, sitting on one of the tiny plastic stools they put out on the pavement. Nobody minds you being there and everyone looks over your shoulder, which I have learned to like.

The overhead cables are the subject as much as anything below them. I drew them first on every page and built the street around what they left.
